Fantastic having is maps on phone and over the past few years this app is one of the rare few that actually gets better with each update.
Why does it take so long to render a map display when you first start app? This even with a fast data connection. Can't you keep the last used map in the cache to speed things up? Otherwise lots of potential. I used to use the Outdoor GB app but I'm guessing the mapping will always be more up to date with the OS app?
So far so good. Downloaded the app & then bought the annual subscription. I have not had much trouble at all with the app & make sure I download a route & background map before I need it. Battery usage was fair, used around 15% in 4.5 hours of use. As the app is new to me I tend to check my route at every junction & compare to my paper maps. Printing to A3 is ideal, I do my route at 1:25k in sections & the overall route at 1:50k...and of course keep the PDFs for later use. 5* from me?
Should be the best app out there, when it works it is, but it is entirely unreliable, just crashes, frequently wont load (even when you have Wifi) I would hate to be up the hills with only this to rely on.
Great for planning route and really handy when walking. The app has created routes where there aren't any , although this is very rare. Unfortunately I have had issues with downloaded offline maps and routes not loading when i have no Internet ?( Definitely take a paper map as well) 3 stars due to being unreliable.
Great when it works, but can be a bit temperamental at times: freezes up, fails to load etc.
It doesn't work well enough to follow on a bike. Plotting routes is laborious on cycles and walks... Better if you could enter a start point and approximate end point, specify walking or cycling and have it deliver some suggestions? It doesn't capture details about your journeys/trips - average speed, fastest speed and there's no buddy system whereby you can see where your specified travel companion are in relation to you. So much potential but underachieving badly at moment. Love actual maps
App has stopped working. The app has worked fine for over a year then suddenly it will not load. I have uninstalled it, reinstalled and moved it from external storage to internal storage, it will run once after installing then the splash screen comes up and nothing else even waiting some minutes.
Great when it works but crashes regularly. Down loading off line maps is slow and you no idea what areas you down loaded. When you update you lose all your down loaded maps....
Offline maps and routes are great of course but the app itself is useless for long distance walks because it rapidly drains the battery. It would be helpful if frequency of location querying was configurable. The last long walk I did with the app, I had to use the android settings to disable location services, only re-enabling when I really needed a position fix, the battery hit being excessive if location services was left on.
